Highly Anticipated North Texas Park Debuts Name, Announces Board of Directors
Kaleidoscope Park is currently under construction and is expected to open in late 2023
Kaleidoscope Park, previously referred to as Community Performance Park, is poised to become one of the most innovative, inclusive, and programmed public greenspaces in North Texas. Kaleidoscope Park is expected to open in late 2023.
The 5.7-acre Kaleidoscope Park is located near the intersection of the Dallas North Tollway and Warren Parkway in Frisco, Texas and in neighboring distance to The Star, Stonebriar Centre, Legacy West, The Shops at Legacy, The Boardwalk, and Granite Park. Park construction is underway, starting the journey that will create a new experiential greenspace that will amplify and strengthen surrounding communities. Naming the park is a major step forward in demonstrating the vision for the park, which will serve as an engaging and inclusive gathering place for all.
Kaleidoscope Park will feature free year-round public programming that will reflect the diverse and unique character of North Texas. The Park will be home to free weekly films and concerts, fitness and well-being activities, and unique performance and dance activities. The Park’s design will feature universally accessible amenities including a performance pavilion, children’s play area, dog park, gardens, water features, Wi-Fi equipped technology terraces, and public art—including a permanent installation by world renowned fabric artist Janet Echelman. Thanks to the generous and ongoing support of donors that will include private citizens and local businesses, Kaleidoscope Park is committed to maximizing opportunities for barrier-free access to programs and activities for community members and visitors alike.
“I’m thrilled to share the official name for the Park,” shares Dr. Scott Stewart, the Park’s executive director. “Built into the name—Kaleidoscope Park—is the Park’s core mission. Just as the kaleidoscope we played with as kids brings together separate and distinct pieces to create a beautiful design, Kaleidoscope Park will thoughtfully engage the diverse and rapidly growing communities across North Texas, bringing communities together in a free, open, and accessible public space to enjoy, create, and inspire.”
“We’re excited to start enjoying Kaleidoscope Park and all its creative programming possibilities,” said City of Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “It will be a premier gathering place where people can enjoy all sorts of arts and wellness activities. It’s bound to become a favorite among residents and visitors, alike, whether they’re meeting up with friends and family or making new connections in the heart of Hall Park.”
All programming, operations, and maintenance of Kaleidoscope Park will be overseen and supported by the Kaleidoscope Park Foundation, a nonprofit partner of Communities Foundation of Texas. The Park is owned by the City of Frisco.
Announcing the Park Foundation’s Board of Directors
Kaleidoscope Park Foundation’s current Board of Directors is comprised of seven dedicated and passionate community leaders committed to a bright future for Frisco and North Texas. Former Texas senator and Plano resident the Honorable Florence Sharpiro will serve as the board’s chairperson, alongside vice chairperson Dave Scullin, Communities Foundation of Texas’s president and CEO. Other board members include Elizabeth Bull, retired former chief financial officer at Communities Foundation of Texas; Kymberley Scalia, vice president of marketing for the HALL Group; Kim Butler, executive vice president for the HALL Group; Scott Boxer, who serves on the board of directors for EnTouch Controls; and Wes Pierson, Frisco city manager. “I am so pleased to be participating in the building of this dynamic and innovative arts and culture destination for all of North Texas.,” said Hon. Florence Shapiro. “This Park brings accessibility and an energy for all citizens to enjoy. The public programming will include programs such as films, concerts, music and dance festivals, and so much more.” Shapiro concluded with, “What better way to celebrate the North Texas community than at Kaleidoscope Park?”
According to Dr. Stewart, “Kaleidoscope Park will be a community park in the truest sense of the word. The Park’s programming will be designed with the input of North Texas communities and the Park’s operation will be supported by donors drawn from these same communities. Supporting Kaleidoscope Park is truly an investment in the positive development, vibrancy, and sustainability of your own North Texas communities.” Dr. Stewart continues, “Kaleidoscope Park will soon be THE destination for all to enjoy, serving as a gathering place for North Texas residents, visitors, and regional nonprofits alike.”
